Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich‘s refusal to step down or admit any wrongdoing is not unusual for an embattled political figure. But does he feel embattled? I was talking with Johnny the other day, and the subject of Blagojevich came up. Then, today, Blagojevich stated:
I will fight. I will fight. I will fight until I take my last breath.
In Johnny’s estimation, Blagojevich has crossed from “embattled” to “drowning” with the combination of metaphors embedded in his speech. He is not feeling like this is a fight for territory or absolution, but a battle for survival, even suggesting that the effort is doomed.
Blagojevich must know the chances are slim to none that he will survive politically. He must know he will very likely serve time. He has shifted from fighting for gain to fighting for survival. It’s a fight that will resemble thrashing more than strategy, Johnny noted.
And that’s probably all we need to know.

it’s crazy what Blagojevich has gotten away with already… he’s an international embarrassment
