Johnny and I were talking about an hour ago about the fate of former Illinois Governer Ron Blagojevich, and the outcome was no surprise — Blago’s metaphors to cover his rationalizations were spinning faster than a bald tire on an icy Chicago road.
Many of his metaphors involved old movies. Others were to other cultural stories or fables.
To Johnny, this just meant that Blagojevich is unable to face the truth, at least while preserving a public plea of innocence.
That requires concealment, equivocation, and falsity.
Politically, Blagojevich’s fate was sealed the moment the tapes played in the media. Metaphorically, he showed his cards the first time he compared his story to a Frank Capra movie.

In some circles, an inability to face the truth, especially one that is so obvious to everyone around you is often called,
“denial.”
